Zeolite 4A

  • molecular sieve 4A
Category:

Zeolite 4A is an alkali metal aluminosilicate; Molecular sieve 4A is the sodium form of the type A crystal structure. Molecular sieve 4A adsorbs molecules with effective diameters small than 4 anstrom (0.4nm) such as water, CO2, H2S, methanol, ect.

Molecular Sieve 4A is made from zeolite powder 4A (>70%) and binder. Zeolite powder 4A is generated by reaction of water, sodium hydroxide, sodium silicate and sodium aluminate.

The application of zeolite 4A:

1. Zeolite 4A can be used for drying and removing of CO2 from natural gas, LPG, air, etc.

2. Zeolite 4A can be used for removal of hydrocarbons, ammonia and methanol from gas streams (ammonia syn gas treating)

3. Zeolite 4A can be used in dehydration of refrigerant and air in the air break units of buses, trucks and locomotives

4. Zeolite 4A can be packed in small bags for packing desiccant for foods, electronics elements, drugs etc.

Regeneration and Activcation of Molecular sieve 4A

Molecular sieve can be regenerated or activated  with thermal regeneration method(Thermal Swing Adsorption, TSA)

To remove moisture under a temperature of 200-230°C (390-570°F).  Molecular sieve can also be regenerated or activated by lowering the pressure in the case of pressure swing processes (PSA). A properly regenerated or activated molecular sieve can give moisture dew points below -100°C. The outlet concentrations on a pressure swing process will depend on the gas present, and on the conditions of the process.

The Zeolite 4A specification:

Property Unit Φ3-5 Φ1.6-2.5 1/8″ 1/16″
Static Water Adsorption %wt ≥21.5 ≥21.5 ≥21.5 ≥21.5
Crush Strength N ≥80 ≥30 ≥70 ≥30
Buck Density g/ml ≥0.7 ≥0.7 ≥0.65 ≥0.65
Loss on Attriation %wt ≤0.1 ≤0.1 ≤0.3 ≤0.3
Particle Ratio ≥99 ≥97 ~ ~
Loss on Ignition %wt ≤1.5 ≤1.5 ≤1.5 ≤1.5

Storage:
Keep Molecular Sieve pellet or molecular sieve beads in an air tight container until ready for use to avoid unintended moisture adsorption.
